Aged Care

HOSTEL

Including 32 beds, our Hostel provides quality residential accommodation for people with low level care needs. Residents recieve a high standard of care from experienced and supportive staff, while being able to maintain their own independence.

Our Hostel activity program is comprehensive and includes day trips, art therapy and exercise sessions and our hospital bus provides transport for local outings. Other facilities include concerts and events, nutritious and healthy meals and laundry services.

Residents have access to a variety of services located on the hospital site, including GP's, podiatry, audiology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, optometry and dental.

Our staff provide a warm and friendly environment where visits from family and friends are always welcomed and encouraged. Respite for carer's is also available, on request, dependent upon bed availability.

 

NURSING HOME

Incorporating 21 high care beds and respite beds, Ballan District Health and Care offers 24 hour, seven days a week personal support for aged care nursing home residents. Our support services involved individual attention, supervision and assistance with:

  Bathing, showering and personal hygiene; 
  Dressing, undressing and grooming;
  Eating and drinking;
  Transferring to mobility;
  Toileting and maintaining continence and managing incontinence;
  Communication;
  Special diets;
  Individual treatments or procedures, including assistance with taking medication; and
  Individual attention and support for people who experience confusion or behavioral disorders.

Our nursing home has lounge and dining facilities that encourage interaction with other residents and staff and there are also intimate areas available for quiet family/friend visits.


COMMUNITY AGED CARE PACKAGES

Community Aged Care Packages are designed to provide the level of care equivalent to that recieved in a nursing home or hostel, but from the patient's own home.
The types of services include: bathing, laundry, meal preparation, dressing, transport, housework, in home respite, home maintenance and social activities. The services are very flexible and can change as client needs change.
While recieving services, people are expected to make a weekly contributin towards costs of care. This is a negotiated fee related to income however no one will be excluded from this service for financial reasons.
 
DEMENTIA UNITS
Our Dementia Unit is specifically devoted to the care of individuals with Alzheime's and other related dementia disorders. This unit provides a caring, personalised, yet structured environment for high care patients, accommodating up to 10 redients which is staffed 24 hours a day.
Each care room is equipped with quality curtains, a spacious wardrobe, electric hospital style bed, side unit, comfortable lounge chair and a visitor chair. Large common areas and dining rooms are furnished with suitable dining chairs, tables and televisions.
Nurses pay close attention to those in the Dementia Unit, to identify medical problems that the patient may be unable to commincate. In particular, the staff look for signs of weight problems, dehydration and medication side effects that ocur more frequently in the dementia population.
